José Fernandes (PhD) is Assistant Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy – University of Porto and researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE.
Head of FFUP Laboratory of Bromatology and Hydrology, expert in food chemistry and chromatographic analysis, coordinator of several National research projects committed to food safety and studies to assess and prevent/mitigate the presence of contaminants in foodstuffs, with participation as researcher in the European Projects P7-ECsafeSEAFOOD and H2020-Seafoodtomorrow (in progress).
He held the post of vice-dean of the FFUP in the period 2010-2015.
Published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles (H-index 26) and participated in national and international conferences with more than 100 oral communications or posters. He supervised / co-supervised 3 doctoral students and 12 master's students in Water and Food Quality Control.
