Tânia Tavares is currently pos-Doctoral researcher at University of Porto (LAQV-REQUIMTE and LEPABE).

Graduated in Biochemistry in 2002 from University of Porto, received a PhD in Technological and Engineering Sciences with specialization in Biochemical Engineering from Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2011.

Her major research interests have focused on biotechnology and biochemistry – development and validation of in vitro and in vivo bioactivities such us antihypertensive, antioxidant, antiulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

Her research is also focused on functional ingredients namely peptides; study applications on the development of novel functional foods; by-product upgrading through protein hydrolysis and extraction processes aiming to obtain high-added value products, development and characterization of new enzymes and study of new biotechnological applications.

As researcher, Tânia Tavares published 17 papers in refereed journal worldwide, prepared 8 chapters for edited books, one national and one international patent and participated in 9 research projects.

Supervised 3 MsD thesis, received two Award of Excellence by IBESA - Institute of beverages and health from UNICER (brewing industry), in consecutive years, 2006 and 2007 and one Honorable Mention in 2008 by the same institution.
